Restaurant review: Seven Park Place by William Drabble

Seven Park Place dining area luxury restaurant London review Michelin
(Last Updated On: February 18, 2020)

We had a wonderful time at Seven Park Place by William Drabble, a 1-star Michelin restaurant in St James’, London. In this hidden gem, you will experience fine French cuisine using the best British ingredients. Here is our review to tell you if Seven Park Place by William Drabble is an ideal choice for your next business lunch or dinner party.

About Seven Park Place by William Drabble

The restaurant is already 10 years old. To celebrate this significant achievement, the dining area has been entirely redecorated. The atmosphere is elegant, and the restaurant feels cosy. Ideal for a discrete business meeting or a date. This refined new space has transformed the restaurant into an intimate, sophisticated and modern venue. Once again, the perfect setting to enjoy high cuisine! The restaurant is located in St James’, one of the chicest areas of London.

Decor and atmosphere

The decoration of the restaurant and the bar is beautiful, after a complete makeover in 2019. What we particularly liked was the fantastic artwork selection from the Rosenfeld Collection. The dining area boasts 2 beautiful Guyot. Even art noobs will be able to tell the quality of the pieces. The rest of the dining area at Seven Park Place is “classic” luxurious London restaurant. Thick carpets, Art Deco lamps, incredibly refined tapestries… There is a nice amount of space between tables and it creates the perfect vibe for any kind of meeting. We particularly liked the large table open onto the room where you eat side by side. It is a very convenient setting for an informal or casual conversation. Finally, the bar is like a boudoir and high-tea there is quintessentially British!

Overall, the decor is tasteful and modern, with refined Asian accents.

Service and Staff

At the risk of exaggerating, we can only describe the service as excellent. The booking process was quick and simple, on the phone with the hostess. The restaurant called us back a few days before our lunch to confirm the booking. Upon our arrival, the hostess called me by my name, shown us to our table and we met our waiter. He was charming and carefully adapted his manners and behaviour to ours. Our waiter was friendly, discreet and refined.

In summary, the service was adequate with what one can expect from a 1-star Michelin restaurant. Which is not always the case in London…

In our plates: the Food

Overall, once again, Seven Park Place by William Drabble did not disappoint! We were impressed by the quality of the ingredients, and the precision of the execution. Some dishes may not please everyone’s taste, but they are bold and done without compromise. For example, I think about the impressive ox cheek open ravioli. We started with a delicious Bouillabaisse soup as an amuse-bouche. And then went for the delicious lunch menu.

The portions are nicely sized and there is enough to properly taste the Chef’s work. I then had cod, and it was perfectly cooked. However, the side was not as refined as I would have expected, but it is a question of taste. I may have preferred it with a light salad or grilled Mediterranean vegetables. This is a restaurant that promises British cuisine, as this dish was.

Each ingredient is delicious in its own, and the chef’s cooking reveals their savours when you mix and associate side and main.

Fine French cuisine using the Best British Ingredients

Dishes are simple, but the accent is placed on the quality of the products. Even the butter comes from somewhere: it is with piment d’Espelette. Espelette is a town in the French Basque Country producing sweet chilli. As I am originally from there, I particularly appreciated that the waiter explained precisely where the chilli is from. This kind of small attentions makes a difference. The dishes’ presentation is beautiful too.

The desserts were particularly delicious: the pain perdu was unctuous and perfectly balanced, and not too sweet. I also tried the yoghurt served with blood orange ice cream and the combination of acidity and sweetness was great. Finally, even for lunch, you are greeted by an amuse-bouche, mini-desserts and takeaway homemade marshmallows.

Conclusion

The staff was lovely and very attentive, and delivered a true 1-star Michelin experience. Furthermore, the food was excellent, refined and balanced. Overall, Seven Park Place by William Drabble is a very good option for a business lunch or a romantic dinner. It is perfectly adapted to the local business crowd of Mayfair and St James for lunch, and ritzier for dinner. The price/quality ratio is impressive, and we will remember the charming staff.
